It was massive and the youngsters streamed in huge numbers lingering at around 5000 attendants. The Blaze Kenya Summit Eldoret Edition held at the Eldoret Sports Club last Friday was not a disappointment.  You probably noticed #BYOBELDORET @BlazeKenya trending over the weekend.

What is your goal in life? Don’t you want to one day be the boss of yourself? No matter where you are in life right now, someday you want to be someone’s employer and you really want to just work by your own rules What if I told you it is possible even before you get to 30? Good news, what do you like to do? That is your plan.

Blaze by Safaricom is a new product (tariff) by the youth for the youth in which they can be in control of their own resources. It is as convenient as having to assign units for data, talk time and texting according to your own usage. As if that is not enough, you can convert your talk time to bundles if you run out of bundles and still have talk time. Then if you are aged 10 to 26 years, just dial *555# and you can redeem your bonga points at selected stores for food or even a movie ticket at IMAX.  Pizza Inn, here we come.

The Summit kick started in Eldoret where youth came in numbers to attend mentorship programs and enjoy fun and games. Mentors covered all aspects of income earning activities; agriculture, business, sports, music, creative art, fashion and so much more.

The idea is to inspire youth to turn their passion and interests into income earners and start while still young. This should be able to curb unemployment and crime. The mentors had one on ones with a few mentees and it was definitely a life changing experience.

Anyiko Owoko was one of the mentors inspiring youth with her journey as Sauti Sols publicist. Kaka Sungura was in the house talking of his grass to grace and of course he did give one of his smashing performances. Wangeci had a rap battle with one of the audience, she was probably everyone’s favorite just because she was so established at only the age of 22. Mike Muthiga got us drooling at his creativity; who comes up with adverts like that of Mbugua??? Well. Mike does. There were so many other mentors. You should probably attend one to get the feel of what I am talking about.

The next blaze Summit will be at Nakuru, make sure you catch up if you need a good story to motivate your passion. Remember it is your passion that will put food on your table; it is you to decide whether or not you want it to. Do not give up on that dream.  Be Your Own Boss
