You must be one of those people who buzzed about Akothee’s extravagant wedding. Well she features some of those beautiful moments in her latest song Yuko Moyoni. It’s another prospective hit with beautiful Kiswahili lyrics and her signature traditional African beats. It is a confusion of bongo, taarab, kwaito-ish but it does sound good to the ear.
The song tells of a typical, now common story of intermarriages. A line in the song even suggests how her dark luo complexion is the strongest attraction the white man has towards her; well dark skins are totally winning.
Akothee is true to her roots, she throws in a few spoken luo words giving her the climax towards the end of the song. The video is a colorful obsession of a traditional African theme. It incorporates dancers clad in traditional African outfits rocking Zulu dance moves. We all know she is quite a dancer.
The story totally gives an African feel, depicting a remote setting and featuring grass thatched houses. I have never been so proud of an African Artist. I feel connected to my roots by just watching and listening to Akothee’s latest surprise. I will not give it all away, so check it out yourself.
